PRAY & PRAY AGAIN

We are really excited at what God has planned for the future of Gainsborough and know that by God’s grace we can strive to carry out the responsibility that the Lord has laid on our hearts for Hope Church.

“Clear lots of ground for your tents!
Make your tents large.
Spread out! Think big!
Use plenty of rope, drive the tent pegs deep.
You’re going to need lots of elbow room for your growing family.”
Isaiah 54:2-3

We want to begin by giving thanks to God for His help, His love and His patience with us on this journey.

Secondly, we would like to say a HUGE Thankyou to you all for praying and supporting us over the past 14 years. What a journey it has been so far!

The seeds of Hope Church Gainsborough first began in 2010 when Matt & Loll Ward first answered the call of God along with Crawford & Lulu Legge to step out in faith, planting a new church, bringing hope to this small town in Lincolnshire.

“‘For I know the plans I have for you’, declares the Lord. ‘Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:1

Those seeds sprouted and the Church started meeting in the Park Springs Community centre after a successful launch day in the centre of Marshall’s Yard.

The Church seedling began to grow and within 6 months there had been a Double Baptism, the start of a mid-week Bible study, and a weekly Breaking of Bread service.

A Youth group had started and a parent/toddler group was about to launch. It had many challenges from the endless set-up & dismantling for each service but Hope was here and was reaching out, welcoming the community of Gainsborough with cuppa and cake in hand!

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding in all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5/6

By the beginning of 2014, prayers had been answered and we found our own building -time to repot! This move gave the Church family space to replant, water and grow and on the 4th of May the doors opened at the Pattern store. A more central location in Gainsborough giving us access to spread the good news from a more permanent home.

This new space allowed the roots to grow deeper and branches to spread with new ministries like “She” and “Stronger”, space to hold our annual “BIG Christmas dinners, youth nights, movie nights and Bible studies.

Spiritual growth was evident too with numerous baptisms and lives being changed by the Good News of Jesus.

By June 2017 we’d seen so much happen with some new additions and the Church family seeing much growth - the prayer was very much to keep Jesus at the heart of everything moving forward. This time also saw Crawford & Lulu move onto a new calling.

By February 2018, Hope Church had outgrown its pot again and needed a bigger space! God delivered when the adjacent unit became available enabling walls to be knocked down! Building work started with worship continuing and even a baptism being held in the midst of it all!

This even bigger space gave us a dedicated sanctuary for Worship and a “Living room” for all of our community outreaches, helping to deepen and strengthen our connections with our special Church family.

There was also now space for us to launch Hope Kitchen, enabling us to provide weekly lunches to the community on a “Come as you are & Give as you feel” basis. A space for us to not only provide nourishment for a physical need but to love on people with God’s love, prayerfully opening doors for conversations about Jesus.

With Big BBQs, Marriage blessings, Baptisms, The Alpha Course and more, we were making full use of this new space and God was filling every corner!

Stepping into 2019 we asked God to fill the diary once again, to give the people of Gainsborough every opportunity to know Jesus as their Saviour. We also went on tour with our Church family for the first Big Church weekend away.

Covid hit early 2020, which saw many challenges for everyone! We asked God to help us navigate this time whilst trying to still reach people for Christ. This saw us take our services online for the first time in what was a crazy, daunting time - we saw much blessing even here!

Prayerfully stepping back into the unknown when lockdown was over, we were unsure as to how many people may return to the physical building but God’s provision was clear in this, we saw many new people come through the doors and searching for a place to call home.

We were eager to meet with each other, to love on people and to show them the love of Jesus - it helped us appreciate the space we had previously prayed so hard for and so we ran with full steam ahead at planning and preparing things to welcome people back to Hope Church.

Over the past 14 years, Gainsborough has seen much growth and investment. Seeing new houses built and new businesses begin. There has been an influx of people moving to town which has been reflected in our thriving Church family which is made up of all ages, from all cultures and all walks of life.

And so here we are, with new additions to our Leadership team (Matt, Loll, Alistair, Rachael, Kevin, Corrie and Laura), and Church family, feeling the Lord has laid a new adventure on our hearts.

We are desperately in need of more space and this has led us in prayer on an adventure for a new, bigger home.
One that we can fully own? One that could accommodate all of the needs of an ever growing family? One that can welcome and support more people from the surrounding community?

We have seen a new bigger space that has the potential to provide us with room to accommodate all our needs and so we would love for your prayers and support in whatever way you can.

We know God can move mountains - so we step in expectation that He can do it again!

Please could we ask you to pray for us once more in this adventure?

  • That Jesus continues to be the centre of our Church
